I didn't watch my first Miyazaki movie until a few months ago, and I can't believe it waited this long to do it. Spirited Away is a marvelous expression of creativity, and it's filled to the brim with iconic imagery and characters. If you haven't seen this either, there's no better time to watch it than now.
This is a stunner of a film in many ways, and it works to extend my love of A24 even more than before. The production is brilliant, with harsh key lighting (as if on a stage), and with masterful performances from everyone in the cast. I respect Shakespeare more than I enjoy it, so not my favorite film of the vear, but certainly one of my favorite renditions of his work. Oh, and Washington absolutely kills it.
