Well that was definitely the most disturbing movie I've seen this year. Nothing is gonna top this, no way. Most of you probably know that I don't like horror movies. Not that I don't like them, but I just can't stand them because I hate being scared. I've opened up to the genre more though and some of my favorite new movies have been horror movies. So I had to see Hereditary because it got a lot of hype. And partially I can understand why. This is haunting. It's less jump scare horror and more psychological torture. It presents some similar horror concepts, but does something that feels new. It's very slow paced though and normally I don't have a problem with that, but before that car scene, the movie was kinda dull. After that it proceeds to challenge your view on the whole story and continues shocking you. Honestly at one point it made me sick to my stomach.
Toni Collette was really my favorite performance from this movie, but really the entire cast was amazing. Milly Shapiro, Gabriel Byrne, Ann Dowd and Alex Wolff who was actually my 2nd favorite performance here. I don't like it as much as other people do, but when this movie decided to take me on a journey that was disturbing and dark, I'm glad it did.
