“The BAD Wonder Woman movie nobody wanted to make” - Cosmonaut Variety Hour

I feel like that sentiment encapsulates a lot of what’s wrong with this film. This was the Wonder Woman movie that WOULD have been made before Hollywood figured out how to reliably make superhero films. Compared to the first film, which is flawed but earnest and overall excellently made, Wonder Woman 84 feels like a massive leap backwards not just for the character, but for the genre…

    Monster Hunter

    ★★

“Exhausting” is how I would describe this film. I don’t know who the editor, “Doobie,” is or what his filmography looks like, but I wished someone would have snatched his laptop from him and said “NO! THAT’S A BAD DOOBIE!”

    Gamera 3: Revenge of Iris

    ★★★★★

The Revenge of Iris offers the end to what may be one of the rarest of creatures: a trilogy that gets better with each entry. Shinji Higuchi’s visual direction and Kaneko’s crackerjack storytelling make for a kaiju film with a blistering amount of emotional depth. It also remains the most visually impressive kaiju movie to come out of Japan to this day, utilizing a near perfect blend of CGI and traditional Suitmation effects. As a capper to the best kaiju films made in the 90’s, G3 might just be the true King of the Monsters.

Gamera 2: Attack of the Legion

    ★★★★★

Perhaps the most successful marriage of Alien Invasion and Kaiju Eiga, Gamera 2 is hard sci-fi in the genre at its finest. The sheer level of detail that went in to the Legion as a functional alien lifeform, and how expertly these aspects are woven into the plot, is sheer genius.
Explosive action and a relentlessly intriguing plot make this another instant classic of the genre, building on the foundation of the previous film in almost ever way. Again, the…
