Matt Schroeter’s review published on Letterboxd :
I'm not a big fan of Ryan Gosling, but really enjoyed his performance in this film – perhaps because he didn't have much dialogue to his character. The cinematography is some of the best I've seen, and along with the masterful soundtrack and sound design, are worth it for seeing this film. There are some clear homages to Taxi Driver, but I think this one stands on its own in keeping a certain calm/cool factor to each scene, no matter how tense. Above all, its a beautiful study of the interplay between shadow and light - which should be at the core of any film.
