I'm still not sure how I feel about the Inglorious Basterds' "avenging historical events in a fictional retelling" thing morally, but I can't lie and say that there wasn't a really pleasant release after dreading what I knew was inevitably coming for the whole film, only for it to have a fairy tale happy ending. It feels like Tarantino made this as his own personal comfort blanket, foot fetishism and all, to simultaneously rewrite an injustice, whilst immersing his audience in a nostalgia that he himself finds the most comforting—late 60's Hollywood. Though rewriting reality into fiction for the sake of catharsis seems wrong when judged at a first glance, when you really think about it, isn't that what all movies do?
