Matt’s review published on Letterboxd:
Twilight is fascinating. On one hand there’s the infamous cringe, which I love. Ya know, the bad acting, the ludicrous story, the ridiculous dialogue, the somewhat immature and sightly-toxic views on love and all that jazz BUT on the other hand, there’s a sincerity that is undeniable. And by that I simply mean that this story has a really good heart and really pure intentions and I genuinely love that. There are moments (the prom dance, the wedding toast, all things Charlie etc.) that just melt me.
And the score is quite literally, at all times, GOD TIER. Bon Iver, Iron and Wine, Paramore, Death Cab For Cutie, Bruno Mars, Christina Perri, Radiohead, Muse, Sleeping at Last, FUCKING CLAUDE DEBUSSY!! And that piece that Edward is always playing on the piano, shit’s gorgeous.
So after spending an entire Saturday and rewatching all 5 of these unparalleled gems, here’s the unnecessary ranking:
2.) New Moon
3.) Breaking Dawn Part 1
5.) Breaking Dawn Part 2
So yeah, the twilight franchise...it’s unlike anything else I can remember. If we’re being honest, it very well could be my favorite film franchise. They’ll always have a very special place in my heart.
