Candyman ★★★

Arguably the best shadow puppets since Alex Turner and co.

Dripping in copious amounts of claret and telling its all-to pertinent story in an incredibly stylish way, Candyman is no doubt a violently tragic tale even if it's not the scariest thing in the world.

While the real horror is the racial injustice fueling one of cinema's great victims and the marked protest against the pitfalls of gentrification, the kills and subtle glimpses of your man sans a hand give a thoroughly enjoyable constant sense of dread. I bet you won't say his name in the mirror...
