A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors ★★★½

I enjoyed this movie but I’m mad. If this film kept up what it had going the first half hour I think it would be not only as good but better than the original. The opening scene is one of the best I’ve seen in a horror movie and the first half hour is honestly really creepy as Freddy makes teenagers seem suicidal. Unfortunately I really didn’t care for where the story went after the first 30-40 minutes. Things just get kinda stupid and the climax while promising digresses into over the top nonsense. While I’d call the first act a near masterpiece there are still some great elements throughout the rest of the film. The set design from begging to end is incredible, becoming a sort of playground for Freddy to reign his terror. That design is matched by the endless amount of well done and horrifying practical effects. There are other flaws such as some pretty meh acting throughout and a whole lot of loud screaming. On a positive note thought the reincorporation of Nancy was awesome. While this film suffers a bit as it goes on it has great production elements and a first act that I think is nothing short of brilliant.
