I'm a bit conflicted about this because at a gut level I found it very moving and beautiful to look at. My reservations are around the issues of redemption and the portrayals of working class life.
I mainly found it kind of grubby. The whole thing of it being mainly 'about' Robbie Robertson is one thing for sure (given that he has cold dead eyes, and is probably the least engaging of the lot of them), but there was something so gurningly self-congratulatory about it I found myself looking away at times. I realise the self-congratulatory element is kind of the point of the thing.
