Expectations can really kill certain films for you, and while I enjoyed this the first time, I was distracted by a much more restrained film than I am used to from Yorgos Lanthimos. This rewatch really let me experience the film for what it is: A terrifying psychological horror film that only Lanthimos could have made. In true A24 fashion, HEREDITARY is a horror film that a lot of people will say isn't really a horror film. Those people are idiots and that opinion is horse shit. It's terrifying. This is the kind of high concept, atmospheric, original horror that seriously gets my blood pumping. Ari Aster has a way of creating profound discomfort while staying faithful to his characters. And allow me to reiterate, this movie is terrifying.
Give Toni Collette a fucking Oscar for this.
