    Twin Peaks: The Return

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

originally I had this grand plan to do a massive write-up after this (second) re-watch. I took lots of notes, wrote down quotes, and two months later am having to accept that it has once again slipped through my fingers...for now. maybe in another couple of years. anyway, this time the strongest imprint came from the penultimate time that we see Sonny Jim (and I only noticed this time around that the kid's name is Jim Jones...). Janey-E, Sonny Jim,…

Darkness, Darkness, Burning Bright – Prelude

"At this year’s edition of the International Film Festival Rotterdam, Gaëlle Rouard’s Darkness, Darkness Burning Bright premiered in a highly compromised form. Because the decision to move the festival’s offerings online was so last minute, Rouard, a French moving image artist based near Grenoble, did not have enough time to have the film scanned, and thus it was shown as a digital camera recording of the projection. • Bliss

"Bliss consists of Markopoulos’ signature montage style; working with the smallest cinematic unit of measurement (single frames), otherworldly superimpositions, rich engagement with color (he did not allow his students to work with black and white stocks while teaching at the Chicago Institute of Art), and rapid editing of static compositions. • Vortex

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

I knew that mfer wasn't gonna name a movie Vortex and then NOT do his signature camera swirl once...

Fascinating, anxiety-inducing, I won't soon watch it again.

  • Eniaios

FYI there will be a live-stream of an excerpt from Eniaios in about 17 hours! Link to the stream can be found here:

"Beavers explained the terms Eniaios and Temenos – both Greek words with multiple meanings; where the former is both ‘unity’ and ‘uniqueness’, the latter refers to a special holy site set aside, one where nothing is born and nothing dies. A site which rests outside of the traditional passage of time as we know it, perfectly…

Hammer casually swaying the camera from side to side while filming herself being eaten out is one of the greatest things ever committed to film

  • Natural Selection

    Natural Selection

"Inside another abandoned building a Japanese student and his American friend read their poems in their native language. Each tries to translate the other’s poem. This was their idea. Other students played with reflecting the sunlight on the performers. Some of the poetry sessions took place on the roof of this building. The students themselves came up with these ideas without reference to my particular interest in other languages and accents. Invisible threads linked their intuitive ideas to mine.
