It has such an interesting premise, which makes it all the more disappointing how clinical this short was. It rarely felt like Life Overtakes Me was really saying anything, and for a subject I'm sure is very emotional for those involved, there wasn't enough time devoted to making the audience feel something. I just felt like I learned something in school, which is not what I come to Oscar nominated films for. It's fine.
This movie is so fucking good and it has no right to be, considering how difficult it is to describe it in a way that doesn’t make it seem stupid. Everything is near flawless stylism, with layers upon layers of detail to look into. Also, I think this movie might just have my favorite character from any form of fiction! Kioke is such an interesting villain, who’s intro sequence is one of my favorite scenes in any movie. I can’t believe I’ve watched this movie twice already considering its runtime, but I will not hesitate to watch it again!
