    Sicario: Day of the Soldado

    ★½

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Maybe now isn’t the best time to release a movie about the US government kidnapping and attempting to murder a Mexican child.

Sicario: Day of the Soldado brings up really explosive subjects, but the movie lacks a compelling hand and a focused script to address those subjects with any weight. Perhaps if the last 15 minutes didn’t feel like the most obvious setup for a sequel since Tomb Raider the movie could have been something more. It’s a big miss.

    ★★★½

Probably the best part of Ant-Man And The Wasp is how little the story is impacted by the larger Marvel Infinity War arc. This is a movie that is mostly about having fun. If anything, this film feels less structurally plot driven than Deadpool 2.

It’s interesting how misleading the trailers are in relation to the plot.

    Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

    ★½

I know Jurassic World wasn’t a masterpiece, but wow. The whole affair is fairly ridiculously predictable. At the same time the story and the dialogue are some of the worst I’ve heard in a modern large budget film. The movie offers a single twist that’s so completely irrelevant and unnecessary the villain announces it during an action scene. The twist is never really addressed with any depth...so why even bother?

This is a movie that requires the characters to be…
