Raw

Raw ★★★★½

I LITERALLY HAVE A PHOBIA OF SEEING OR FEELING HAIR IN THE MOUTH AND THIS FILM VALIDATED THAT FEAR THANKS I HATED EVERYTHING ABOUT THAT SCENE

but the rest was fantastic! it made me wanna throw up in the best way possible. there is quite a bit to unpack from this film. raw is a complex, unnerving, and uncomfortable examination of humanity through the allegory of cannibalism; don't mistake this for a typical horror film, it is no doubt a coming of age. in this film, we're guided through the search of identity, sexuality, and adulthood, albeit unconventionally, which is why this works so well. normal coming of age films bore me because well, they're plain, non-imaginative. raw is the exact opposite while still working in the same themes of a typical coming of age story

one of the best directorial debuts i have ever seen. basically, if you liked lady bird and don't mind bloody visuals, you'll enjoy this too lol

(p.s. ella rumpf if your reading this i'm free on thursday night—)
