    May December

It’s not common for me to watch a movie for the first time and notice the photography more than the story and the performances. With May December, I definitely had that experience.

In no way is that meant to take away from the actors. Portman and Moore are, as one would expect, pretty magnificent in their roles. There are similarities in the characters they play, but it becomes more and more obvious as the film continues just how different they…

Whiplash is one of those movies that is easy to keep coming back to; it’s simply just that good. Everything about it works perfectly, and aside from a couple of very minor nitpicks, it’s hard to really find anything wrong with it.

That’s nothing new; most of us on here already know that. But it’s also one of those movies that you can discover something new, or form a new opinion, with each rewatch, and watching it yet again this…

Hit just as hard the second time; maybe even harder, honestly. One of those movies I know I’ll return to time and again, and that won’t be hindered in the least by the runtime. Some movies feel bloated when they’re anywhere near this but KOTFM seems to make every one of its 210ish minutes count.

The fact that Scorsese is still making movies of this quality and depth after 50+ years of being in the industry is quite simply mind boggling.

Very-well acted (Giamatti is doing what he does best, Sessa is excellent in his first major role, and the chemistry between the two of them is perfect), very funny, and while it may be predictable, the story is one that resonates well this time of year. All of these things combined will make sure that The Holdovers easily becomes a classic Christmas film.

All that being said, I admit I was slightly disappointed, considering how much I enjoy a lot…

Ratatouille + Triangle of Sadness + Midsommar = The Menu

Ok, that may be just a BIT of a stretch.

Either way, really dug this movie. Well-acted, suspenseful, funny as all get out, and genuinely one of the weirdest movies I've seen from 2022 (although I definitely did have Triangle of Sadness vibes coming at me while watching, for more reasons than one).

Ralph Fiennes is always great; you know when you see him that you're in for a fantastic…
