I think, it's classic, psychological horror film. You defiantly don't get all the things on your first view that director wants to convey, I think it requires second view. but I read few articles and theories about it and here's my review

I thought this was a story of a failed love, A love gone wrong but as the episodes in the story tell us it is about proximity and acceptance, in the end Takaki realized and came to the understanding that this dream that he has is over. it may be sad but it's true. it is grounded like this film.
