A perfect “we’re almost out of the pandemic, be kind to one another” animated film with compelling female characters, cute animal and baby sidekicks and awesome lore that is endlessly engaging (Disney+ TV show potential??). Awkwafina was wonderful as the majestic and relatable dragon, Sisu. The stakes and emotion hit hard, even in its very PG state. This film radiated Game of Thrones meets Avatar the Last Airbender but for kids with short attention spans. All in all, a positive and beautiful watch.
Also: “Us Again,” the short before the film, was so sweet, reflective and THE most 2020s Disney short of all time- a biracial couple, dancing in a beautiful city and grappling with time and purpose, so good!
