    Escape Room: Tournament of Champions

    ★★½

Not quite as fun as the first one, but the kids are fully immersed in this story. They want another sequel. I accidently let slip there's an extended cut so I guess we will be watching that next.

My wife and I enjoyed pointing out the plot holes. The kids just ignored us. 2.5.

    Escape Room

    ★★★

The kids wanted this for Family Movie Night after seeing the trailer for its sequel on the Venom Blu Ray we watched last week.

It was probably too intense for a family movie, but the kids seemed to enjoy it. Even the youngest liked trying to find the clues and connections. My wife seemed to like it as well, despite saying, "They shouldn't be watching this" after every swear word.

It was a decent movie, with a fun set up.…

  • The Big Sleep

    The Big Sleep

    ★★★★½

I guess the plot is as confusing as everyone says. While watching I didn't think so, but afterwards I kept thinking, "Wait, why was that one guy killed?"

But all that is secondary to the film's style and Bogart's and Bacall's performances. And of course the snappy dialogue. 4.5.

    Mountain Patrol

    ★★★★

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.

Shot dead, just like his antelopes.

Not sure I was expecting something this stark and brutal. Of course most of my (admittedly limited) Chinese and Hong Kong movie watching has been in the Wuxia or martial arts genres, where the brutality is a little more stylized. 4.

Beautiful, creative way to tell this tragic story. 3.5.

  • The Courier

My wife's pick. Apparently we enjoy cold war spy movies. I think I liked it better than Bridge of Spies at any rate. 3.5.

  • The Assassin

    The Assassin

    ★★★

Stunningly beautiful film, but it moves glacially slow under the weight of all that beauty. 3.

  • Venom: Let There Be Carnage

    Venom: Let There Be Carnage

    ★★★

Not a great movie, but I was entertained. The kids all loved Venom. Even my youngest who probably was a few years too young to be watching this film. 3.

  • Lead Me Home

    Lead Me Home

    ★★½

Look at these beautiful, cinematic shots of our city streets. Wouldn't it be a shame if people actually lived on these streets? 2.5.

  • Three Songs for Benazir

Packs more of a punch than I was expecting. 3.5.

"Yeah, I had my days." 4.

  • The Outsiders

    The Outsiders

    ★★★½

Apparently we watch this every time one of the kids has to read the book for school. There's a lot of unintentional comedy, but some real emotional weight to it as well. 3.5.
