A conflicted Tom Cruise in a psychological drama filled with mystery and intrigue was always going to be a winner for me.

There’s just so much to love about this film but for me my absolute favourite thing is that score, when Tom Cruise’s character is walking down the streets of New York late at night and those piano keys started playing it had me in some sort of trance, it was genuinely unbelievable. Haunting almost.

Robert Eggers has once again proved he’s one of the most interesting and diverse filmmakers currently working. I’ve enjoyed every film he’s put out so far and The Northman might be my favourite yet. I didn’t understand why people called this a horrifying film and then I saw that cave scene and i suddenly realised. A sprawling sci-fi epic with scope and ambition like no other film i've seen in 2021 so far. The cast is excellent, i enjoyed a brooding Timothee Chalamet as Paul and Rebecca Ferguson and Oscar Isaac are also stand outs here.

    The technical…

Not even the two slags sat in the cinema on their phone the whole time could have stopped me from enjoying this great 4k restoration of one of my favourite Hitchcock films.
