Saw this film for the first time somewhere in the early 90's and mad e big impression on me. Strangely enough I never rewatched it, until now.
It is a bloody masterpiece. It really is. The acting in magnificent, the use of Mozart's and other classical pieces is wonderful and holy crap, it all looks so amazingly good. The sets, the opera stages, the make-up, the clothes. Incredible work by everyone involved. The story of course, is alo very good and it never bores the whole 3 (!) hours (the Director's Cut, that is).
