    Hadn’t seen this before, saw it in IMAX 3D. looks AMAZING. Like dudes this was made in 2009 and I don’t think there’s any major CGI blockbuster that’s looked any better since. Thrilling to watch, especially loved the animals. 

    Obvs issues w/r/r ableism, cultural appropriation, simplistic representation of indigenous peoples, etc, but I think it’s a credit to the film that I feel it’s worth digging into those problems rather than writing it off. fascinating to see those issues paired…

    When introducing the film Alice Waddingngton dedicated it to all the girls who grew up loving sci-fi and fantasy but never feeling like they really saw themselves in it. And boy did it deliver!!! Wholly original, but with notes of Alice in Wonderland, Return to Oz, Labyrinth, Picnic at Hanging Rock, and all of the 80s/90s fantasy I grew up loving. It looks terrific and unique and the cast is outstanding. A great revision of the classics.

    I have a weakness and it is crappy thrillers with amazing casts. Why do I do this to myself. These are movies meant to be watched on television by accident when you’re too lazy to change the channel or it’s the only thing on at the hotel and yet every few months I actively seek one out. I pay money for it. What sadistic desire makes me want to watch actors of caliber struggle through hideously cliche lines of dialogue…
