There is a moment in this that I’m absolutely obsessed with: John sees Rachel through the crack in her door. She’s taking a sponge bath and has taken off her blouse. But in this moment, where it could feel very male-gaze and gross, something shifts. She sees him through her mirror and turns around, presenting her topless self to him and inviting him to look— she wants him to look— and now he’s the intimidated one.
Anyway, I 💚 the female gaze on Harrison Ford’s body, this movie is a beautiful look into Amish life that never feels judgmental but maintains honesty, and Peter Weir is an incredibly underrated director.
