Undemanding but very enjoyable Disney family fare which gets most things right from the not-too-irritating child characters to some quality Rick Moranis comedy moments. Sure, the visual effects are in places pretty ropey, but a re-watch some 17 years after I saw it at the cinema didn't do much to dent my childhood memories of how much I enjoyed it. What I did not know until the opening credits rolled was that the original story was by horror stalwarts Stuart Gordon and Brian Yuzna!
Depending on which of the two types of martial arts movie plot you prefer (fighting your way through a tournament to avenge the death/injury of your friend/relative or learning a new martial arts technique from an old master to avenge the death/injury of your friend/relative) then either this or Kickboxer is Van Damme's best film. Although he should have won two best actor Oscars for Double Impact, obviously.
