The Other Side of Hope ★★★½

After Le Havre this is the second Aki Kaurismäki film I've seen, and I really like his distinctive cinematic style, characterized by stoic, almost emotionless acting, screen compositions and colors that reflect a love for graphic design and 1950s / 1960s nostalgia, and melancholic music.

The Other Side of Hope is a fine blend of drama and dry humor, conveying a meaningful message by emphasizing that most refugees are unfortunate fellow humans who shouldn't be treated like hostile aliens.
