My “Favorites” could be more accurately referred to as “Some of my Favorites in Chronological Order.”
This is a visually engaging film full of fine acting that nonetheless is full of cardboard thin characterizations of both people and political issues. Perhaps it is a good thing the a Black Panthers Can now be the background for a traditional big budget Hollywood style historical film, but it is just that.
This film is about a young boy who believes that earning a black belt in karate, along with a few other things, will bring his father back to life by Christmas. Normally, I would say that is a really dumb idea, but the kid turns out to be right, so perhaps he was on to something about the resurrecting powers of martial arts achievements. Or maybe he was just lucky and his dad would have come back to life anyway.…
