my 1500th film and what a choice that was, truly as surreal and satirical as its recent reputation suggests, sort of the Funny Games of comedies. lots of great gags, but the best one is that it even exists.

Just a honest little movie that treats its characters and their struggles with respect while still being able to deliver lots of humor and levity.

    Princess Mononoke

One of the great fantasy epics. The way it's building up this world full of gods, rites and traditions and clashing it with the industrialization (as a child I always thought the ball that's inside the demon boar is somehow enchanted, but no, it's just iron from the forge) is up there with Lord of the Rings. Getting from the second to the third act is taking too long though and when the finale finally hits it doesnt have enough impact anymore. Still, up there with the very best of Ghibli)
