Christen Michaelson’s review published on Letterboxd:
I don't know how to describe my feelings towards this film. This movie is an erotica drenched modern romantic Shakespeare revenge-thriller set in 1930's Korea. This was not at all what I was expecting, after about twenty minutes when the first twist hit I realized this was going to be way, way different than what I expected, and sure enough, I was right. I really love how the film switches from beautiful and gorgeous scenes to brutal, and uncomfortably graphic scenes in the blink of an eye, somehow managing to balance these two opposite ends of the spectrum. The acting here is superb and the film's aesthetic is gorgeous. The fantastic twists here along with sudden perspective shifts cause the camera to feel unreliable almost, making this a beautiful thriller full of treacherous goodies. My only issues with the film are some of the scenes are perverted to the point of feeling pornographic, and I would never want to watch this movie with another person. Erotica film just isn't really my thing, but I love all other aspects of the film and watching this film was one hell of an experience.
(Keep in mind this is my first reaction and initial score, my ratings for films often change over time)
