Coal Miner's Daughter follows the familiar biopic formula. But Sissy Spacek is charming and impressive in her embodiment of Loretta Lynn, seemingly ageless in her portrayal of a naive 13 year old to a superstar in her 30's, weary from the demands of touring. And her vocals are stunning!
The first half of the film (getting to know Loretta, establishing her relationship w/ Doolittle, and getting her feet wet in the music industry) is good but the second half, once Loretta achieves a high level of success, rushes through the highlights to get to the moment when success turns its back on her. Just like Loretta Lynn's career, the movie moves a little too quickly through the meaty stuff (her relationship w/ Patsy Cline, her drug addiction) so we're not entirely clear how she got from Point A to Point B
