    Invasion of the Body Snatchers


    Maybe they would have averted disaster if the men had listened to the women sooner.

    But yeah I do love when films get at these underlying anxieties. Like the idea that everyone around you has been replaced or brainwashed or whatever into some conspiracy is definitely something that hits some sort of primal fear.

    Movie good.

    This movie really is quite a visual spectacle. And it still looks great even though the CGI definitely looks 20 years old. The art deco designs and the Tezuka Star System characters and jazz music all combine together really well as well.

    It's always interesting with compilation type anime films, like, what's the connecting piece. With Memories the connection feels a bit tenuous... I guess the connecting piece is Katsuhiro Otomo. But they're really three very diverse films tonally and in terms of subject matter

    Ashens and the Polybius Heist


    For me a lot of the appeal is pointing and going "hey it's the man from the youtube internets" but it's a fun movie! It's very silly but the jokes land well and that's what you want really.

    I think the previous Ashens movie leaned a lot harder on references but this one doesn't so much so I'd say that's an improvement and makes it more likely to be interesting.

    I certainly don't regret backing it
