Oswald the Lucky Rabbit

Walt Disney and his brother Roy Oliver Disney started the The Disney Brothers Studio in 1923 (renamed The Walt Disney Studio in 1926).
The studio started doing the Alice in Wonderland series in 1924- a series that combined live-action and animation.

When that series ended in 1927 Walt Disney invented the character "Oswald the Lucky Rabbit" together with his friend and animator Ub Iwerks.

The cartoons were released theatrically by Universal but made by The Walt Disney Studio until 1928 where Disney cut ties with producer and distributor Charles Mintz (who had control over Winkler Pictures after he married producer/distributor Margaret Winkler in 1924).
