Warren Gilbert’s review published on Letterboxd:
Pee-wee is enjoying himself working on his farm and spending time with his talking pig when a circus run by Kris Kristofferson drops in during a storm. He falls for a circus performer and does whatever he can to join the circus too!! Everything that worked with Big Adventure seems to be forgotten as we get....whatever this is supposed to be. There are some good moments, such as a lunch early on with his fiance that's hilariously awkward, but most of the film is just strange, weird and creepy, and not in a good way. There is so much time spent on this love triangle between him and two women including a very out of place lovemaking scene in a water stream. It's always debatable what audience would best enjoy Pee-wee Herman, but this seems like a bunch of ideas both adult and family friendly thrown at a wall to see what sticks and not a lot does. Better off sticking with Big Adventure or the Playhouse TV series.
