I really wasn't expecting much based on the cast and its cinema release + subsequent positive response (I very rarely enjoy horror films that have been released in cinemas for some reason). I assumed the concept of 'being quiet' would just be used a cheap hook and then thrown away.

Very surprisingly, it is not. The use of silence and sound stays true to itself for the entire film and does not have the characters resorting to loudly whispering to…

The first half of the film is extremely irritating and the second half is extremely depressing (in a good way). I wish it had been more consistent.

It's been 7 years since I've seen it, but it's still absolutely perfect. I always found the Mia Farrow character annoying, but as a whole the character works. The plot is obviously just great, but it's handled so well that it never feels like a cheap dive into a wish fulfillment fantasy. It's romantic without being melodramatic or cutesy and funny without being silly. It also helps that Jeff Daniels is crazy hot in this and constantly makes me swoon.
