this is definetely better than i thought it would be. i wasn’t even excited when this came out but i tried it out since it was trending and had a short run time. i really loved the pacing of the movie, it’s pretty much a slow burn but escalates like a time bomb especially in the end. it honestly reminded of tarantino and hitchock’s work: how you feel like nothing is going on then all of a sudden they just suck you in. the acting was superb, the late great chadwick boseman undoubtedly gives his best performance here. i also thought the cinematography and costume design were precise. aside from the obvious issues of racial oppression, i think this movie perfectly portrays the hardships of being in a band. it’s not easy being in a group: a simple afternoon rehearsal can bring to light issues of ego, race and even religion.
