This is a movie I've been wanting to see for such a long time. Now that I've finally watched it, it did not disappoint one bit.
Everything about this movie is flawless to me. Obviously it's not a flawless movie in the grand scheme of things, but nothing in particular really bothers me about it. Robert Eggers manages to make even the simplest of tasks into something impossible to look away from. The constant feeling that the characters could snap at any moment, mixed in with the increasing claustrophobia as the film went on led to an experience that left me at the edge of my seat from beginning to end.
The movie is a technical marvel as well; Every single thing complements the film's eerie and haunting tone, from the unsettling music, to the claustrophobic cinematography, to the dark, dark visuals. Oh, and the acting? Some of the best I've ever seen. Both of these men get absolutely lost in their performances, especially Willem Dafoe. There's one particular scene that just blew me away because of how good his acting was.
Overall, The Lighthouse is an absolute masterpiece. Everything about this film soars and makes for an experience I won't forget soon. Please, go see this movie. You won't regret it.
