Being fairly disappointed with Cars 2 and Brave, Pixar's two previous movies, I was expecting close to nothing from Monsters University. What I got was actually a fairly enjoyable prequel to one of my favorite Pixar movies. I'd be lying if I said the unconventional climax and ending didn't surprise me. I'm still pretty disappointed and heartbroken about Pixar's direction these past few years though...
The Blue Umbrella 2013
The Blue Umbrella is the animated short accompanying Pixar's Monster University. Simply put, the most gorgeous computer animation I've ever seen. It's amazingly realistic and wonderfully artistic like a painting at the same time. I lost myself in the beautiful streets, pouring rain and city lights.
That said, I didn't care for the main character, the blue umbrella and found the story fairly lacking. Pixar used to tackle interesting topics in their shorts. The Blue Umbrella is merely a simple and uninspired love story.
Chico & Rita 2010
Beautiful art, soundtrack and atmosphere.
To Die By Your Side 2011
Mourir auprès de toi is well animated, it's nothing like anything else I've seen before. The concept of literary characters jumping out of their books is interesting, but overall the short is just mediocre.
