This is a gloriously stupid big-budget SyFy Channel B-movie, writ large. There’s a cat named Fuzz Aldrin, which is awesome, obviously, and I absolutely adored the occasional shots set-up to make it look like the moon was sneaking up on our hapless humans like a fucking slasher killer. It’s fun, but would have benefited tremendously if Nic Cage had been given a role somewhere amidst all this crazy bedlam. MOONFALL is absolutely preposterous but also fully and earnestly (not to mention brainlessly) committed to the bit, existing almost for no other reason than to drive Neil deGrasse Tyson into an apoplectic fit. Bravo!
Perfectly serviceable, at times even fun, and the climax has some nifty video-game out there largesse. Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg are awfully miscast, and I never really bought them in the roles of Nathan Drake and Scully, respectively. This movie should have been made 10+ years ago with Nate Fillion and Bruce Campbell. In fact, it’s kind of hilarious that after nearly 15 years in development, this is the final product.
Overall, though, it’s not a terrible video game…
