35mm

First saw this over Festival Scope on a laptop screen and while I absolutely fell in love with it, I knew I wasn't really getting the full effect both cinematically and emotionally. Now, I've gotten to see it projected on a big screen in 35mm and it allowed me to lounge in every beautiful moment of this film. Listening to Klingler talk about the film was equally as interesting. A lovely and heartbreaking deconstruction on the romanticization of memory and the marriage between image and attraction broke down to a fine cinematic science. Rarely do films capture the unknowability of people with such little judgment for any of its characters. Everyone's simultaneously sympathetic and problematic (kinda like in real life, ya know). I love every second of this film. One of the most criminally underrated/overlooked/under-the-radar movies from 2017.
