Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood

Once Upon a Time… in Hollywood ★★★★

It's been a long time since a film has been this great company as in literal great company. With ONCE UPON A TIME... IN HOLLYWOOD (2019) Quentin Tarantino has made a riveting revival of Hollywood anno 1969 and with the fusion of a wondrous assembly of charming characters Tarantino sets the scene for a good time. Superstars Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio makes for a powerful, dynamic duo where especially Pitt delivers his best performance of this century. A couple of scenes run out of gas and lack direction, while the character that is Sharon Tate (played by a graceful Margot Robbie) could have have been applied more depth. Albeit the symbolic meeting and transition of Old and New Hollywood is admirable something more profound is still left to be desired. Calling ONCE UPON A TIME... IN HOLLYWOOD Tarantino's best picture can to me only be deemed as the effect of mass hysteria, but it's definitely up there as his best film since INGLORIOUS BASTERDS (2009) - perhaps even KILL BILL VOL. 1 (2003). And that climatic scene, which has already become sort of infamous? Probably the best time I've ever had at a Tarantino flick.
