Rocketman blasts you off at high altitude into the magical world of Elton John through set pieces and performances that feel like something out of a fantasy novel. It’s wonderous, like the best Broadway musicals, but the film is more than glitz and sparkle.
Taking the superstar’s famous songs and blending them perfectly with events in his life provide a superb biographical picture of the child behind the signature shades - Reginald Dwight. He’s shy, struggling to love himself, while desperately seeking acceptance and love from others.
It’s an equally magical and heartbreaking look at one of music’s most influencial figures. Anyone in love with Elton John’s music will have goosebumps and everyone unfamiliar with his story will come out of it with greater appreciation for the man. Give Taron Egerton an Oscar!!
