Sara Clements’s review published on Letterboxd:
The Farewell's existence has begun to prepare me for the inevitable. I'm sure I'm not the only one who has thought of the death of their own grandparent(s) while watching this. Three of mine died before I was born so I only have one grandma left, like Billi. But unlike Nai Nai, my grandma is 95 and perfectly healthy so I know when she dies it will be sudden. I won't be able to prepare myself for it. But in watching the family depicted in The Farewell, who know that death is near, and watching them grieve from beginning to end, has allowed me to acknowledge and brace myself for what's coming. And in that preparation, I feel nothing but strength.
