Kung Fu Panda

Kung Fu Panda ★★★★

This was a charming surprise! Dreamworks has always been quite a scattershot company - on one hand you'll get your Shrek 2s, and then on the other you'll get Bee Movie as the absolute nadir of entertainment.

And so the concept to this always felt like it would lean a little more in the latter camp, as a "haha fat panda wants to be the big hero" (which is also what alot of my brief exposure to the promotions seemed to lean on) but that's really not the case.

Yeah he's a chubby panda, and it does get acknowledged. But thats the key difference - acknowledged, not dwelled on. And when he's often the butt of the joke, it's rarely his weight and more just slapstick hijinks. And there's sincere heart throughout that really helps keep the film thoroughly charming, and still really well animated even 12 years on!

Now I look forward to checking out the rest of the trilogy!
