    The Farewell

The final scenes of this movie will stay with me always, because I really loved my grandma! No movie has captured that more than this. But it also says so much about family, belonging, identity, regrets and the quarter-life crisis.

With all due respect to Spike Lee, I think there’s a better version of this movie out there to be made, maybe  a straight drama instead of a movie that’s half a 70s movie and half a statement piece. It had the subtlety and nuance of a jackhammer. The one exception is the debate about working from the inside or dismantling the system. Complaints aside, I sure did love watching John David Washington, Laura Harrier and Adam Driver.
