I admit this while donning an official SPECTRE emblazoned cap as one of the biggest James Bond fans around: Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon completely kicked Pierce Brosnan and EON Productions to the curb. The Bourne Identity tells a slick tale of intrigue and betrayal, utilizing innovative camera techniques to place us in Jason Bourne's state of unrest as we uncover the truth about his past, without the distraction of excess embellishments. It completely revolutionized action thrillers made during the noughties, paving the way for a myriad of films influenced by it, including the much beloved Dark Knight trilogy and Casino Royale. The effect The Bourne Identity had on the movie industry is monumental, perhaps even greater than it's own quality as a film, which is still impressive. The sum of its parts never perfectly clicks into place like some of the films it inspired, but it remains deserving of our respect with a dazzling flourish.
