The Girl from Rio ★★

Like most Italian attempts at replicating the James Bond formula, the sex appeal is dialed up to an uncomfortable sleaze, and completely overpowers the charisma vacuum that they cast as their 007. Jess Franco's flair for the absurd elevates The Girl from Rio, but his visual tenacity can only work so much magic when the script is more interested in sensual writhing and wardrobe malfunctions than anything remotely interesting. Talk about Danger: Diefromboredom, am I right?
