Paris, Texas ★★★★★

I hear your voice all the time. Every man has your voice.

Everyone who has seen this movie knows this scene, this quote and the way it rips your heart out.
Harry Dean Stanton and Nastassja Kinski does this in a effortless way. It is as if they have known each other for a life time and are reunited out of love but not for each other. They love each other too much perhaps. It is that kind of volcanic love that erupts and leaves in total devastation. It is the calmness before the storm and when it happens it just happens. There’s nothing to do about it put to pick off the pieces that was left and pray to God that you can make one thing okay.
(Why do I think Bastille's "Things We Lost in The Fire" is a perfect Travis & Jane Henderson tribute?)

So their small reunion feels bittersweet but it’s so good. It is better than sex because of its sincerity. They are sensual in the careful way they use their words. They are just talking but the conversation sounds private for our ears. It is the bedroom talk of an unhappy couple with crazy amount of love for each other. The sheer nakedness of the characters when they open up their heartwrenched feelings goes straight to your heart. You believe them, every word they say to each other and you want them to make things right. You root for them but the devastation is too much and you feel like you are watching these two faulty people with so much love for each other just rip their own heart out for each other.

So what can be done right? Harry Dean Stanton’s character does it. He has picked up the pieces of the aftermath and he puts it back together. It’s not the picture perfect ideal but he does what he does out of the love he has in abundance to the only people he cares about.

If you haven’t seen Paris, Texas I recommend it wholeheartedly. I love Harry Dean Stanton’s acting and Wim Wenders is an magnificent director who uses the camera like it is a body part of himself and the viewer. 5/5 and a heart.
