watched this in a state of utter shock, disturbance and an overwhelming amount of sadness.
not since mother! have i ever been so conflicted as to how i feel about a film. and not conflicted as to whether i think it's a good film or not - there is no doubt that it's exceptional. utterly heartbreaking, provoking and so explicitly raw. but i was confused and left jarred as to how i actually feel about it. do i like it?…

there are a few reasons i could ponder over, as to why coraline remains so close to my heart, having only seen it a couple times since that first time in a theatre at around 8 - 9 years old. besides the obvious, of it being a stellar film, in all regards to filmmaking - it captures childlike mannerisms through its characterisation and screenplay so accurately and wonderfully and its score is one of the greatest ever - but a…

loved. so scary and so well directed, with an absolutely stellar performance from the lead. i wholeheartedly believe horror is the best and most effective genre to explore trauma throughout, and this film does an incredible job. can’t wait to watch again.

my first ever cinema experience on my own!

so. i was a big fan of melanie martinez around 2015 - i had all the merch and posters and went to her concert and all that. since then, i haven't been nearly as big a fan, but have been somewhat remotely following her music journey. i've always been completely head over heels for her dreamy yet sinister aesthetics and her songwriting skills are incredible. when i heard about this film, i…
