“So, what is the enduring magic of Suspiria?”
“It’s a mystery to me,” he [Argento] says, gathering his empty coffee cup and shopping bag. “Anyway, I don’t believe in magic. It’s a marvellous idea that spells can change your life and magic is real, however it isn’t true... But I think maybe Suspiria has a soul, an important soul.”

oh japan i love you and your weird ass horror movies <3 (also the effects are really impressive for this being from the 60s)

there was really interesting things taken from japanese folklore in this and some other japanese movies i’ve watched recently and others i’ve watched in the past too which make me want to look into and learn more about japanese folklore

obayashi is absolutely the most underrated director out there. other than peak argento, no one else’s style compares

the consistency obayashi maintained throughout his career is beyond impressive. i haven’t seen any of his films from the 2000s yet but other than the 2000s, i’ve seen at least one film of his per decade from the 60s onwards and all of them have been at least good to absolutely amazing beautiful films in both story and visuals. i’m determined to finish his filmography one day even though some of his films are difficult to find
