Tay’s review published on Letterboxd:
we filled more than an entire row in the theater we went to tonight and everyone's opinions varied greatly. all the praise and criticism is equally merited: it is impeccably animated, but it is a little thin on plausible plot; it honors perfect little details and mundanities you would find in Tokyo, but the climatic song detracts from the emotion of the moment. i didn't realize the first time that i went that this very much could be -- and is -- a devicisive film.
but i still cried, i still laughed, i still love this dumb and wonderful and silly and heartbreaking movie. i want to go to Japan tonight. catch me on the next flight out. i'd watch this again (and again) on the plane to Tokyo. :')
