"There is no secret ingredient." - Mr. Ping
This was one of the picks for The Flick Fan Film Club. Here's my ranking of each.
Man, it was great to finally revisit this again. The beautiful 2D animated style dream sequences and the sometimes really gorgeous 3D animation that still manages to hold up more than a decade later was incredible. A lot of the humor was on point and the score just left me in awe. Like it's often both earnest tribute to many martial arts films while hitting a lot of the heart the film had. It had a lot more heart than I remembered too. The action scenes were top-notch and the pacing was brisk.
The performances all around were excellent like The Furious Five were all great (Jackie Chan, Lucy Liu, David Cross, Seth Rogen and especially Angelina Jolie), Jack Black was really funny and lovable as Po, Ian McShane was fantastic as the antagonistic and arrogant Tai Lung, Randall Duk Kim's (Master Oogway) voice performance exuded patience, wisdom and his comic timing was on point, James Hong (Mr. Ping) was also delightful and Dustin Hoffman (Master Shifu) blew me away here.
A great pick for the club and excited to see what's picked next!
