Michael King’s review published on Letterboxd:
Wow, I didn't expect it to be this good. I expected it to introduce the DCEU in a way that was a jumbled hot mess, it wasn't. I expected it to be more senseless violence, it wasn't. I didn't expect Wonder Woman to look that good, she shocked me. This movie shocked me and left me in awe. I talked with a couple next to me during the credits and they knew it was good by looking at my face during the movie.
The movie handled the criticism of destruction from Man of Steel. It was a great use of course correction for the tone of the movie. This movie handled it perfectly and makes it so you didn't really need to see it and instead jump into Dawn of Justice.
Ben Affleck became Batman and Bruce Wayne and the best at both characters. This film was unlike most Batman movies and allowed us to look into Bruce's life as CEO of Wayne Enterprises as well as being a strong Batman.
Superman was truly done justice and I am not the biggest fan. I'm trying not to defend him. He went from a guy that was polarizing in Man of Steel and into a likable and sympathetic character, even to non-Superman fans.
I think Lex Luthor was one of the greatest surprises in this movie. I expected some goofy character that was not likable. In reality Luthor was amazing and straddled the line between entirely crazy and entirely smart. It is a great dynamic that most people didn't get.
The fight between Batman and Superman was as close to a comic book fight as you will ever see on screen. It is a splash-page fight with a lot of call backs to The Dark Knight Returns fight between the two.
I am glad to eat crow on this movie. I am glad to breathe a sigh of relief on it and the DC Expanded Universe. I saw it in IMAX. If you are able to do it, I'll say do it.
